Founded on March 25, 1992, Motorola's Manufacturing Site in Tianjin is one of the corporation's largest manufacturing bases in the world. It has over 10,000 staff.
Located in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA), Motorola's Manufacturing Site in Tianjin includes factories for PCS, GTSS, CGISS and ESG business units, providing a wide range of products including handsets, wireless telecommunications base stations, two-way radios, automobile electronics and energy electronic appliances. Up to date, the manufacturing site has become one of Motorola's most advanced production bases in the world . It not only supplies products to the domestic market, but also exports to the operations world.
PCS Tianjin (Handset Factory)
Put into operation in July 1992, PCS Tianjin Factory mainly produces the products of GSM and CDMA handsets and is Motorola's largest handset factory in the world and produces the latest models of Motorola handsets equipped with the latest technologies. The factory is also devoted to the development of personal networks so that people can access the Internet through wireless equipment, easily obtain various types of information at any time and in anywhere, and realize remote control of personal telecommunications.
CGISS Tianjin Operations (Two-way radio Factory)
Established and put into operation in October 1996, the two-way radio factory has the capability manufacture wireless two-way radio and spare parts and is one of Motorola's global conventional and trunking radio bases. Its main products include GP68, GP300, PMUE 1434A, PMUE 1623A, Waris and Karisma, etc. The products are widely used in the sectors of railways, public security, transportations, tourism, construction and public utility departments and have won high praises from the users. The products not only meet the needs of the Chinese market, but also are exported to the areas of the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and North America, etc.
GTSS Tianjin Operations (Base Station Factory)
The base station factory was completed and put into operation in June 1999. Its main products are GSM and CDMA wireless telecommunications base stations of which the GSM technology is introduced from Motorola's factory in the Great Britain and the CDMA technology is introduced from Motorola's factory in the United States. Within a short period of only several years, it has developed rapidly to become an important GSM and CDMA system manufacturing plants in the China region. Its clients include the telecom operators in China and other Asian countries. In December 2000, the factory obtained the ISO9002 quality certificate and in January 2002, it received the TL9000 quality system certificate.
IESS Tianjin Factory
IESS Tianjin Factory includes two parts of ESG and ACES. ESG was established in 1994 and mainly involves in the design and manufacturing of various types of chargers, batteries and power sources suitable for the use of mobile communication equipment. Through the continuous efforts and hard-working of the staff, ESG Tianjin Factory has become an important supplier of energy source for mobile handsets, two-way radioses and advanced portable electronic devices. It plays a critical role in the development of the corporation's strategy.
Quality
Motorola's Manufacturing Site in Tianjin implements the 6-sigma in all its production, equipment and management systems so as to meet Motorola's global standard. Up to date, its PCS, CGISS, IESS and GTSS units have all obtained the ISO9002 quality certificate and ISO14001 quality certificate. Motorola?s Manufacturing Site in Tianjin has also won the titles of outstanding quality management enterprise and good quality product awarded by the Chinese government.
Environmental Protection
Motorola emphasizes environmental protection in every production links and has won awards from the Chinese government for quite a few times. Motorola's Manufacturing Site in Tianjin each year invests a large amount of money in introducing advanced environmental protection equipment and also invests lots of operation funds and manpower to make sure the smooth operation of environmental protection equipment. Since 1994, Motorola's Manufacturing Site in Tianjin has won a number of environmental protection awards from the TEDA Administrative Committee, the TEDA Environmental Protection Bureau and the Tianjin Municipal Government.
Motorola and Tianjin -- A Model of Win-win Strategic Partnership
With strong support from Tianjin city and the TEDA government, Motorola has attained extraordinary development since it first invested in TEDA in 1992. Starting with $120 million of investment and several hundred staff, it now boasts a total investment of $3.4 billion and more than 10,000 employees.
The past more than 10 years have witnessed not only the rapid development of Motorola itself, but also the great contributions Motorola has made to Tianjin. Between 1993 and 2003, Motorola (China) Electronics Co Ltd realized an accumulative sales revenue of $31.3 billion, exported a total of $16.3 billion worth of products and recorded a total of $11.2 billion in local procurement. Motorola has also introduced a great number of world advanced telecommunications and semi-conductor technologies to Tianjin and a large number of Tianjin local enterprises have entered the international market through supplying parts for Motorola. Among Motorola's more than 700 suppliers in China, over 120 are located in Tianjin and they have trained a great number of professionals for Tianjin who are familiar with international practices, and have acquired world advanced management experience and technologies. At present, 83 per cent of the managers at Motorola Tianjin are local.
