Taiwan's SOLOMON Group
Chooses Motorola's Innovative Convergence 2.5G Wireless Platform

AUSTIN, Texas - May 8, 2002--Taiwan-based SOLOMON Group has selected the i.250 Innovative Convergence(tm) platform from Motorola's (NYSE: MOT) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) to use in wireless integrated modules that can enable devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), inventory tracking devices, auto electronics, smart phones, and other portable devices with high speed data transfer GSM/GPRS capabilities.

With the explosive growth of wireless data demands, especially in the Greater China region, the combination of Motorola's cellular systems and semiconductor knowledge and SOLOMON's expertise in wireless is expected to deliver GSM/GPRS module solutions poised to make a significant impact on the 2.5G GSM/GPRS wireless data market.

By integrating its three core businesses of wireless communications, semiconductor solutions and display systems, SOLOMON Group's goal is to create synergies for its cellular solutions, ranging from GSM modules, MCU (SIM Card), Bluetooth(tm) modules and LCD driver/display modules. Motorola's highly integrated GSM/GPRS platform is designed to improve speed and cost efficiency to enhance SOLOMON's corporate positioning as a value-added partner in mobile communications.

"To meet our customers' demands for delivering the most advanced 2.5G solutions available, we looked at numerous semiconductor options for our GSM/GPRS module designs. We selected Motorola's i.250 Innovative Convergence platform because it offers the industry's most highly integrated solution, delivering the lowest part count and the flexibility to meet voice-only, data-only and voice/data capability," said Jackson Chen, chairman of SOLOMON Group. "Motorola has a recognized worldwide leadership position as a wireless communications solutions provider, and with its i.250 wireless platform we can offer our customers reduced manufacturing costs and as well as reduced time-to-market."

Motorola SPS' i.250 platform is a comprehensive silicon-to-software solution for building smart 2.5G/GPRS wireless handsets. The scalable, highly integrated platform offers a 50 percent reduction in component count versus many competing solutions and enables companies, such as SOLOMON, to reduce development time by up to a year and significantly reduce system cost. The i.250 platform combines an advanced chipset with a comprehensive development environment, field-proven GPRS software protocol and type certification support to offer a complete range of voice-centric, voice/data, and data-centric products.

"As a leading supplier of the wireless communications modules and components, SOLOMON Group is committed to reducing the barriers manufacturers face in the fast-growing wireless market, including short product life cycles, complicated manufacturing and testing procedures and extensive development costs," said Pete Shinyeda, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola's Wireless and Broadband Systems Group. "SOLOMON Group's selection of the i.250 Innovative Convergence platform enables the company, and its customers, to quickly and cost-effectively develop GSM/GPRS wireless devices and components. With Asia and especially Taiwan ODMs taking on an increasingly central role in the delivery of wireless devices, we look forward to advancing our relationship with SOLOMON to provide anytime, anywhere wireless connectivity."
