Motorola Continues to Win GSM Business in China

Value-Added Services Assist Operator in Achieving Network Excellence.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., June 19, 2002-- Motorola's Global Telecom Solutions Sector (GTSS), one of the world's leading suppliers of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) systems, today announced the signing of four contracts totaling $100.8 million to expand and upgrade GSM networks for China Mobile Communications Corporation (China Mobile), China's largest telecom operator.

Under the terms of the contracts, Motorola will deploy its Horizonsystems GSM infrastructure solution to expand China Mobile's GSM 900 and 1800 networks in the provinces of Hubei, Yunnan and the cities of Beijing and Tianjin. Also as a part of the contracts, Motorola will install its cellular equipment to replace the existing GSM networks in two cities of Yunnan and one city of Hubei. The network expansions will increase subscriber capacity by 1.2 million users upon its completion scheduled by the end of 2002.

Besides supplying infrastructure equipment, Motorola's GTSS will also provide value-added professional engineering services including MOTOVip and NSP (Network Support Program), and enabling technologies such as LBS (Location Based Services) to the expansion projects in Hubei, Yunnan and Beijing.

"These new contracts are further evidence of our strong partnership with China Mobile, as well as our continued commitment to growing Motorola's share of the China market," Ruey Bin Kao, Motorola's vice president and general manager of GTSS's China Operations. "Our new initiatives in network supporting program and valued added services (MotoVip) will help operators improve the network availability and quality while our enabling technologies such as LBS will help them increase their average revenue per user and generate revenue quickly."

"We are confident that these higher level of services will enhance customer satisfaction and build an annuity service revenue stream centered on traditional support services," Kao added.
