SDPC-Motorola Center for Enterprise Excellence
Holds a Meeting on Achievements in Beijing
BEIJING, Sept. 10, 2002 -- The State Development Planning Commission (SDPC), said on Tuesday, during a meeting held at the Diaoyutai State Guest, in downtown Beijing that the SDPC-Motorola Center for Enterprise Excellence is an example of mutual collaboration and is built for success.
The SDPC-Motorola Center for Enterprise Excellence SOE training project is of far-reaching significance to China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The center is accommodating the country's needs as well as those of the enterprises and the implementation strategy for development of China Western region, has produced fruitful results.
Since its establishment in April 1997, the Center for Enterprise Excellence, which was jointly established by the SDPC and Motorola, has sponsored three CMM training sessions plus 43 training sessions providing training to 3,169 people from 953 enterprises in 26 provinces and municipalities across the country.
A large number of Chinese enterprises, like Hebei Jiya Electronics Co. Ltd., Tianjin Lishen Batteries Co. Ltd., Tianjin Photoelectric Communication Technologies Ltd. and Zhuhai Multi-Layered Circuit Board Ltd., have successfully joined Motorola's global suppliers network. Such cooperation not only enables Motorola to purchase technology-intensive products in China, but also effectively upgrades the management, technology and quality of enterprises in China and enhances their competitiveness in the international market.
"The SOE training project is a commitment made by my father, Robert Galvin to President Jiang Zemin and to China," said Christopher B. Galvin, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola. "Cooperating with Chinese enterprises benefit both Motorola and China. Motorola shares in the responsibility to accelerate the development of the electronics and communications industries in China."
The Center for Enterprise Excellence (SOE project) aims to improving the quality control and efficiency of China's SOEs. By sharing with them Motorola's rich experience in enterprise management, Motorola offers management training in strategy, marketing, quality, production, operations, finance and human resources.
The project has paid much attention to, and was given great support for, the development of the country's western region, with more than one-third of the trained enterprises coming from there. So far 1,052 people from 351 western SOEs have received training at the Center.
Liang Youcai, general manager of Nanning Yinhe Co. Ltd. in Guangxi Province and once a trainee at the Center, said: "Through the training, we upgraded our concept of management and learned new methods of enterprise management, which helps the enterprises adjust their development strategies and expand businesses."
Looking back at his five-year teaching experiences at the Center, Jiao Shubing, a teacher at China Remin University, said, "The SOE project is not only a training project, it also serves the function as a seeding machine. When there are proper soil, climate and other conditions, the "seeds" sowed by the SOE project will generate results beyond our imagination."
Attendance at the meeting also included Gene Delaney, Motorola executive vice president and general manager of the company's Global Customer Solution Operations, Tim Chen, chairman and president of Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd., government officials, representatives of enterprises and teachers at the center.
