Europe's Largest EMS Adopts Motorola's 2G and 2.5G Wireless Platforms for Developing Mobile Handsets

CANNES, France - February 17, 2003 - Elcoteq, Europe's largest electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company, is the 12th company to adopt Motorola, Inc.'s (NYSE:MOT) Innovative ConvergenceTM platforms. Elcoteq plans to use Motorola's i.200 and i.250 platforms to develop its customers' advanced wireless handsets for delivery of voice and high-speed data services.

"The Innovative Convergence platform is designed to enable us to reduce our customers' development costs and time to market," said Christer Härkönen, senior vice president of Elcoteq's Business Area Terminal Products. "Motorola's unparalleled wireless and semiconductor experience is assurance that we are utilizing the industry's most comprehensive development platforms and is a good complement to our design services and manufacturing expertise. We believe the Innovative Convergence platforms will help us in realizing the expansion of our business model to offering customers complete design services."

The advanced i.200 and the i.250 platforms for GSM (global system for mobile communication) enhanced voice and GPRS (general packet radio service) voice and data cellular handsets and smartphones make it possible for Elcoteq to offer a comprehensive product portfolio, ranging from the voice centric applications of the i.200 platform to the GPRS rich-data features of the i.250 platform such as wireless application protocol, enhanced messaging service, and multimedia messaging service. In addition, Motorola's i.200 and i.250 platforms are designed to enable Elcoteq to decrease time to market and reduce systems costs through a lower component count.

"Today's announcement with Elcoteq demonstrates growing momentum for the Innovative Convergence platform," said Pete Shinyeda, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Wireless and Broadband Systems Group. "Motorola is redefining the wireless chipset industry and forging a de facto industry standard that offers designers and manufacturers one-stop shopping to create smaller, more cost-effective wireless communications products with advanced battery power performance and the latest feature sets."

Innovative Convergence platforms feature a highly integrated chipset, comprehensive reference designs, field-proven GSM and GSM/GPRS software and development tools, as well as test environments and services. This comprehensive system approach helps customers such as Elcoteq focus their resources on product differentiation and customizing handset features to fulfill their customers' requirements.
