Motorola Showcases Microsoft Windows CE®.NET on i.MX Applications Processor
Embedded Operating System Enables the Rapid Development of the Next Generation of Smart Handheld Devices
AUSTIN, Texas - April 23, 2003 - To empower designers to create compact, smart handheld devices rich in digital content sharing, gaming, wireless connectivity and web browsing capabilities, Motorola, Inc's. (NYSE:MOT) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) is showcasing its i.MX processor, combined with the latest versions of Windows CE.NET, at the Embedded Systems Conference West, San Francisco, April 23-25, 2003.
i.MX offers developers a rich array of integrated multimedia and communications features, requiring exceptionally short development time to prototype and manufacture devices such as next-generation PDAs, smartphones and personal digital entertainment. Motorola is scheduled to show its i.MX applications processor powering version 4.2 of Windows CE.NET.

"The combination of the i.MX processors with the Windows CE.NET operating system will enable designers to build innovative, small footprint, smart mobile devices that include support for rich applications, multimedia, and Internet connectivity."
Windows CE.NET is the robust, real-time embedded operating system for building the next generation of mobile, small footprint smart devices. With a complete operating system feature set and end-to-end development environment, Windows CE contains everything designers need to create custom Windows Powered devices that include rich networking, multimedia and Web browsing capabilities.
Features such as multimedia support and wireless Internet connectivity consume significant battery power, leading to less productivity and entertainment time and more time spent recharging batteries. The low power consumption of the i.MX processors, however, provides wireless device users with extended run times as a result of an advanced power management architecture.
Design and manufacturing techniques used in i.MX processors, such as system bus architecture and "doze" and "sleep" modes, translate to less power consumption even for advanced PDA applications. In addition, other integrated features of the i.MX processors, such as the multimedia extensions and video port, enable original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to use fewer components in their wireless devices, thus reducing system costs.
