EASTERN Telecom Speeds to Market with Motorola's Innovative ConvergenceTM Platform

Korean Device Manufacturer Moves Rapidly From Concept to Network-live Prototype Using Comprehensive Tools, Reference Design and Expertise

AUSTIN, Texas - April 23, 2003 - EASTERN Telecom, one of Korea's most creative original device manufacturers (ODMs), became the latest company to adopt Motorola, Inc.'s (NYSE:MOT) Innovative ConvergenceTM platforms. EASTERN Telecom plans to rapidly develop its customers' advanced wireless handsets for delivery of voice and high-speed data services using the i.200 and i.250 platforms for 2G and 2.5G mobile devices.

"The Innovative Convergence platform provides us with a comprehensive set of tools and world class reference designs to enable us to help reduce our customers' development costs and time to market," said Chris Chung, president and chief executive officer of EASTERN Telecom. "Motorola's wireless and semiconductor experience has allowed us to move rapidly from concept to a live prototype on a carrier network with exceptional speed and flexibility. We believe the Innovative Convergence platforms will help us both expand our business offerings and broaden our portfolio of custom design services."

The advanced i.250 platform for GSM enhanced voice and GPRS voice and data cellular handsets and smartphones make it possible for EASTERN Telecom to offer a comprehensive product portfolio with GPRS rich-data features such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS), and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). In addition, Motorola's i.250 platform is designed to enable EASTERN Telecom to decrease time to market and reduce systems costs through a lower component count.

"Today's announcement with EASTERN Telecom shows how the Innovative Convergence platforms continue to win market share among savvy ODMs worldwide," said Pete Shinyeda, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Wireless and Broadband Systems Group. "Motorola is redefining the way designers bring mobile devices to market. We are forging a de facto industry standard that offers our customers a fast track to creating smaller, more cost-effective wireless communications products with advanced power performance and the latest feature sets."

Innovative Convergence platforms feature a highly integrated chipset, comprehensive reference designs, field-proven GSM and GSM/GPRS software and development tools, as well as test environments and services. This comprehensive system approach helps customers such as EASTERN Telecom focus their resources on product differentiation and customizing handset features to fulfill their customers' requirements.
