Motorola Media Statement

At Motorola, the safety and welfare of our employees and their families are paramount. To that end, precautionary, yet proactive measures have been taken and the company is working closely with government and medical authorities to prevent the spread of SARS.

To date, Motorola has one confirmed SARS case in Beijing. The employee has been hospitalized and is responding to medical treatment. Fortunately, none of his family members or colleagues who had been in close contact with him has developed any SARS symptoms. Motorola's office buildings were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected under the guidance of the Beijing Center for Disease Control and are fully operational today.

Due to a new regulation issued by the government which prohibits the use of central air-conditioning systems in buildings with confirmed SARS cases, Motorola temporarily turned off the central air-conditioning system of its office in Dabeiyao from May 3-11. Out of concern for the health of the employees in that building, only a limited number were allowed to enter the building from May 3-11.

Motorola, with business continuity plans in place, has been successful in maintaining business operations, fulfilling customer commitments, and looking after the well being of its employees, during this challenging time.

As part of the business continuity plan, Motorola has implemented a shift system while also enabling its employees the capability to work remotely using laptops, high speed dial-up connections, video/net meeting and conference calls, Motorola phones as well as other office space.

Open communication with employee, media and customers has always been a policy of Motorola. Motorola will continue to keep its customers and the media informed of any further developments concerning its operations in China.

As the largest foreign investor in China, Motorola remains fully committed to China for a long term.
