MontaVista Software and Motorola to Make Available Embedded Linux Platform for i.MX Processors
Alliance Targets Applications for Mobile Computing and Wireless Handset Markets
Austin, Texas, and Sunnyvale, Calif., July 8, 2003 - Motorola, Inc.'s (NYSE:MOT) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS), the world leader in RF (radio frequency) and embedded silicon solutions and MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that MontaVista( Linux( Professional Edition 3.0 will support the Motorola i.MX1 and i.MXL family of applications processors.
Both i.MX1 and i.MXL (media extension) processors are designed using "smart speed" techniques to maximize applications performance with the lowest possible power consumption for use in smartphones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and many other mobile devices. Based on ARM? core technology, the i.MX processors offer a high degree of on-chip integration with features such as the multimedia extensions and video port enabling manufacturers to use fewer components in their wireless devices, thus helping reduce system costs.

Availability
MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.0 for the i.MX1 & MXL platforms is expected to be available direct from MontaVista and MontaVista distribution channels worldwide in the third quarter of 2003.
