Motorola Offers Comprehensive Linux® Support for Its MPC5200 Processor

Metrowerks Linux Board Support Package and Tools Simplify the Design Process and Speed Application Development

AUSTIN, Texas - Nov. 10, 2003 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) now offers designers using the MPC5200 embedded processor containing a PowerPC® core a combined hardware and software package for applications running on the Linux® operating system. Linux designers can now turn to one vendor for a processor as well as the evaluation board and development tools needed to support it.

A Metrowerks Linux Board Support Package (BSP) for the Lite5200 evaluation board is now available. The BSP works with the Metrowerks Linux Platform Creation Suite (PCS) and the Metrowerks Code Warrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Together these tools help designers create embedded Linux applications powered by the MPC5200 processor - taking designers from the earliest stages of assembling an image through execution and debug.

The Metrowerks Platform Creation Suite (PCS) eases the customization of the Linux operating system for embedded devices. Designers may use the CodeWarrior IDE as an intuitive and highly visual application development tool for embedded Linux environments. Using the IDE helps shorten the learning curve, increase productivity and reduce development time for MPC5200-based projects.

This end-to-end approach offers the customer a unified software and hardware development environment with excellent support. This simplifies the design process and speeds time to market of Linux-based products targeting industrial, instrumentation and automotive applications.
