Beijing, China, - 23 March 2004 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Tianjin Cable has selected the company's end-to-end digital solutions to enable the deployment of digital cable to over one million subscribers in Tianjin.
The agreement marks the first deployment of a Motorola DVB end to end system by a Chinese operator, and includes DVB digital headend, digital set-tops, Motorola's MediaCipher® conditional access (CA) system, and system support.
During the 2nd quarter of 2004, Tianjin will deploy the Motorola DVi1000 set-tops and MediaCipher® CA as part of the operators' commercial rollout of digital cable.

Currently implemented in cable, satellite, and terrestrial applications, MediaCipher® is responsible for securing digital video to around 30 million digital cable terminals worldwide. The Motorola system elements are built on open system standards such as DVB and MPEG, and include Simulcrypt system implementations. "Motorola's sophisticated digital solution provides Tianjin with the reliability to immediately deploy broadcast digital cable services, enables the smooth migration to a interactive platform in future and the flexibility to leverage software solutions from multiple application vendors," said Mr. Wang, Vice General Manager of Tianjin Cable. "Tianjin is proud to be the first operator in China to deploy Motorola's powerful end-to-end technology platform for digital cable."
"The agreement with Tianjin is one example of Motorola's commitment to partnering with operators throughout China to provide flexible solutions that can quickly enable the successful launch of digital services to subscribers," said Drina Yue, vice president and managing director, Motorola Asia-Pacific.
