Since introducing its first product, the battery eliminator in 1928, for more than 75 years, Motorola's key technologies have grown and changed, and it has proven itself a pioneering role in technology innovations. From the five-pound Handie-Talkie radio to the lightweight models of today, Motorola has been the visionary who leads the technology of two-way radio service industry. Its digital cable set-top terminals and cable modems deliver the promise of a connected home just as the original home radios and televisions did in the 1930s' and 40s'. In personal communications especially, Motorola changed the way the world communicates, from the introduction of the DynaTAC cell phone in 1983 to today's sleek handsets and innovative technology for mobile telephone service. Throughout its history, Motorola has been dedicated to developing and providing these technologies to the public and communities worldwide.
Motorola spends about US$4 billion, or 15% of its annul sales, on R&D every year.Currently Motorola is focusing on the research and development of seamless mobility technology, which makes life smarter, safer, simpler, more synchronized and fun.
Today's Motorola is a global leader in wireless, broadband and automotive communications technologies and embedded electronic products.
Wireless Handsets
Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless handsets, which transmit and receive voice, text, images and other forms of information and communication.
Wireless Networks
Motorola develops, manufactures and markets public and enterprise wireless infrastructure communications systems, including hardware and software.
Mission-Critical
Information Systems
Motorola is a leading provider of customized, mission-critical radio communications and information systems.
Broadband
Motorola is a global leader in developing and deploying end-to-end digital broadband entertainment, communication and information systems for the home and for the office. Motorola broadband technology enables network operators and retailers to deliver products and services that connect consumers to what they want, when they want it.
Automotive
Motorola is the world's market leader in embedded telematics systems that enable automated roadside assistance, navigation and advanced safety features for automobiles. Motorola also provides integrated electronics for the powertrain, chassis, sensors and interior controls.
Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX)
Motorola Labs has recently completed a series of experiments using OFDM-the base technology for WiMAX and other broadband wireless approaches on 20MHz channels to achieve speed of up to 300Mbps while mobile. This result shows that the combination of OFDM with other technologies such as adaptive modulation and coding, multiple antennas and advanced error control coding offers the best prospects for future wide area broadband wireless systems and drives WiMAX to become a much more competitive contender for the basis of 4G.
Fourth-Generation Mobile Telephone Technology (4G)
While 3.5G will be an evolutionary system, the vision for 4G will require new air interface technology, new spectrum allocations and extensive research, including new spectrum and modulation schemes. When fully implemented, 4G is expected to deliver dramatic improvement in data transmission (as much as 10 to 50X over 3G) at dramatically lower costs. 4G is focused on services that 3G will not be able to provide, such as high quality full motion video, high speed mobile Internet access, mobile video on demand and new services related to these technical capabilities. As a leader in the field of radio technology, Motorola is a forerunner in 4G research. Motorola Labs has a 4G demonstrating system in Chicago suburbs achieving data communication rate of 20M bps while in high speed moving situation. Motorola is working with Japan 4G research and development team, who is expected to unveil the first 4G system in 2010. Motorola also has cooperative projects with leading Chinese 4G researchers jointly exploring 4G technologies.
Seamless Mobility
Currently our research focuses on making Seamless Mobility possible. Seamless Mobility is an integrated solution to make people's communication with others and connection with information smooth and steady wherever they are and whenever they transit from one place to another, by jointly applying various technologies and products of Motorola. Seamless Mobility delivers seamless communications by integrating Motorola's latest technologies and products, such as home monitoring, handsets featuring push-to-talk technology, 3G, EDGE, mega-pixel cameras and various public-service devices. Our purpose is making life smarter, safer, simpler, more synchronized and fun, to make people enjoy Motorola's innovative technologies and telecom solutions at home, at work, in the car and everywhere in between.
The end of there is here, seamless mobility is here.
You are here. The big news is,so is everything else.
The people you need.
The entertainment you love.
The information you can't live without.
It's all here.
Because Motorola will bring it to you-- from your home to your car to your office and all the spaces in between.
The obstacles separating you from what you value most simply vanish.
It's end of there.
